Largest Mock Presidential Election Ever for K-6 Students!

At least 4 million elementary students from all 50 states are pre-registered to vote on Monday, November 3—just 24 hours before the actual election. Will their choice be the same as their parents the next day?

The results will be refreshed online every 10 minutes and listed by state as these students cast their votes from coast to coast—from Maine to Hawaii, from Florida to Alaska. Polls open at 8:00 AM and close at 3:30 on Nov 3.

The election is accessible only to K-6 elementary schools that have pre-registered, but the public may see the results in 50 states tally up by going to www.studiesweeklyvote.com.

The election is being sponsored by American Legacy Publishing, the producer of Studies Weekly® publications. It is an effort to provide their student subscribers with a rich civics experience that mirrors the real election as closely as possible.

For Immediate Release:

Millions of Elementary Students to Vote for Barack Obama or John McCain on Monday, Nov. 3 - Just 24 Hours Before the Actual Election

Studies Weekly®, publisher of "textbooks" in newspaper and magazine format used by millions of elementary students, has partnered with Woogi World™, a safe children's virtual world with hundreds of thousands of young users, to provide a rich civics experience that students are sure to remember.

On Monday, Nov. 3, at least 4 million students will vote in the combined Studies Weekly® Woogi World™ student presidential election. The election will be administered by school faculty via the Internet so only K-6 students will have voting access. However, everyone may view the voting results for each of the 50 states at www.studiesweeklyvote.com throughout the day of the election. Polls will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m. in each time zone from Maine to Hawaii. As the polls close in each time zone, the color of each state will change on the electoral map to blue or red.

Similar student elections have been notoriously accurate in predicting the outcomes of actual elections. It is believed this is because students usually vote the same as their parents. This student election is unique compared to past student elections because far more students will participate. It will also be different because the results will be available for the rest of the country to see - in real time - as the students' votes tally up in each state.

In the days leading up to the election, students will participate in pre-election activities now at www.woogiworld.com. Woogi World™ is Studies Weekly's online partner and any child may go there to adopt a woogi and begin their participation. There, students will complete the Civics Adventure designed to be educational and fun while preparing them for the election. After the Civics Adventure is completed, students may cast their vote at the voting booth in Woogi World too. The Woogi World voting booths will open Monday, Oct. 27 and stay open through Monday, Nov 2. The votes cast at Woogi World and Studies Weekly will be reported separately to avoid double voting.
